There are many things out there to soothe a sore throat, but not many that are actually good for us. This tea consists of some of our favourite ingredients – lemon, ginger and honey.
A recipe for relief!
It takes no time at all to make, simply boil some water.
While the water is boiling, get your other ingredients together. Freshly squeeze some lemon juice, grate about a teaspoon of fresh ginger, or you can use ground ginger, and get out some honey.
Make sure you use 100%, pure raw honey.
Once the water is boiled either add all the ingredients to a mug and fill with the water, or you can add all the ingredients to a teapot to make a larger quantity.
Allow the mixture to infuse for a few minutes – until the tea is at drinking temperature. Sip and allow it to soothe that sore throat.
What Are The Benefits of Lemon, Ginger & Honey?
This power trio is loaded with healing benefits to boost the immune system and soothe those flu and colds symptoms.
Let’s break out these three and take a look at what each one will do for you.
Lemon
Lemon is high in vitamin C, this keeps the immune system strong and neutralises the free radicals in your body. This, in turn, reduces the inflammation and swelling. When taken regularly lemon juice is known to decrease the strength of the cold and flu virus in the body and reduce phlegm.
A study has shown that, while vitamin C supplements do not really reduce the incidence of colds in a population, it is possible that they can help reduce the length of a cold.
Ginger
Interestingly, ginger can help you sweat out the toxins in your body, which can be really helpful when you have a cold. It is also helpful for easing upset stomachs, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and those nasty flu cold sweats.
Fresh ginger contains a bioactive substance called Gingerol, this is able to fight infections and it is able to inhibit the growth of many different types of bacteria, this includes the RSV virus, which is a common cause of respiratory infections.
Honey
Honey is well known as an immune system booster. It has amazing antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which makes it perfect in helping soothe and heal a sore, scratchy throat.
Honey is also known to soothe a pesky cough, whether in adults or children. A study showed that children between the ages of 1 and 5 with nocturnal coughs from colds coughed less frequently when they received two teaspoons of honey 30 minutes before bed.
We hope you find some relief from that sore throat, next time you feel a cold coming on, by sipping on this soothing sore throat tea regularly through the day, you will feel the relief on a scratchy sore throat.
