Hi there, my name is Amanda, founder of Prana Thrive. I want to share with you the story of one of our clients, Ashley, a 32-year-old female from Victoria, Australia.
Ashley came to us experiencing a range of troubling health symptoms lingering for the past two years. It all started when she was treated twice for Helicobacter pylori, which left her gut health worse than it was before.
Ashley was struggling with so many symptoms …
… bloating, weight-gain, acidic episodes, fatigue, poor sleep, dizziness, food intolerances, feeling like her gut was not digesting properly, variable bowel habits, brain fog, burping, and dryness of eyes and hands.
She had tried probiotics, gut health supplements, vitamins, and was even seeing another Naturopath who provided her with iridology results. She had also been prescribed ant-acids by her GP. Despite all of these attempts at finding relief, Ashley still felt like her symptoms were controlling her life.
When Ashley came to us, her primary goal was to “fix her gut.” During our initial Microbiome Restore consultation, Victoria noticed that she seemed like a lovely, young lady, and her symptoms were definitely affecting her quality of life.
Astonishingly, she had been told by her GP that her symptoms were all in her head and that there wasn’t anything that could be done. This only added to her frustration and confusion.
After conducting an initial gut microbiome test, we found that Ashley had high levels of Streptococcus and histamine-producing bacteria, as well as severe leaky gut markers.
As part of her Microbiome Restore gut healing program, I designed a three-month supplement plan and provided diet recommendations based on her microbiome results.
- During the first month of the plan, we focused on reducing inflammatory species.
- In the second month, we shifted our focus to skin support and probiotic reestablishment.
- Finally, during the third month, we consolidated on the progress made and provided additional nutritional support.
Throughout the three-month program, we also recommended that Ashley follow a gut health-focused lifestyle as best she could. In addition to lifestyle tweaks, this meant avoiding eggs (temporarily), limiting sugars and alcohol, remaining gluten-free and dairy-free, and increasing prebiotic fibre-rich food sources and fermented foods during the second month.
Ashley returned to us after six months, with much-improved symptoms and a few niggling concerns.
Ashley reported that by the end of her three-month plan, her reflux and bloating were mostly gone, and her bowel movements had become more regular. Her energy levels had greatly improved, and she was dealing better with stressful situations. She had originally been experiencing very dry skin on her face, around her eyes, and even eyelids, this dry skin and dry eyes had all cleared up.
So we went one step further, Ashley submitted a retest of her gut microbiome sample.
The results of the retest showed that Ashley’s:
IBS score had decreased indicating reduced inflammation …
…while important gut health metabolites including SCFAs, that were low initially, had increased. This included lactate, acetate, and folate production, which is great for pregnancy.
The retest also showed that Ashley had many new beneficial bacteria to support her digestive system. Her leaky gut was repaired, showing a large increase in her gut lining bacteria (Akkermansia). Other beneficial bacteria to support brain health and energy had also increased.
She felt she could now reintroduce foods that she previously had to stay away from. In fact, she even updated us, she is now pregnant!
Overall, Ashley noticed many improvements while following her three-month plan.
We were so happy to see her regain control of her health and well-being.
